Starship Troopers: Invasion

So here's a couple trailers for Starship Troopers: Invasion.  It looks very badass.  It's going to be straight to DVD apparently, and I can't wait.


 The story centers around two teams of Roughnecks: the Alpha 1 team embarking on a mission to rescue the distant outpost Fort Casey and the K-12 team already stationed at Fort Casey. The two war-depleted squads must band together with a common objective, but personalities and ambition ensure a bumpy ride.

New 'The Dark Knight Rises' TV Spot.

Here's a new TV spot with a bit of new footage.  I've been hearing a lot of doubts about this movie from people, but I think it's going to be just as good as the first two films.  It could also be better than the first two.  I think people are going to be surprised by what a good character Bane is going to be.  People had their doubts about Heath Ledger playing The Joker, and look how that turned out.  This film stands to be great and I can't wait till July 20th.

So this is a trailer for a fan film set in the Harry Potter universe, but in New York.

Man Wants to Build the Starship Enterprise For Reals.

So some dude wants to build a real life starship Enterprise for space travel.  Systems and electrical engineer, Dan, is the man behind BuildTheEnterprise.org, a website dedicated to making the Enterprise a reality.

'The author, known as "BTE-Dan," isn't an expert in the field, but he's put together a huge wealth of information on current research that could be used to build the ship, how much it might cost, and what would have to be changed or scrapped to turn Star Trek's vision into reality.'
“The proposed ship would have an artificial gravity wheel, three ion propulsion engines, and nuclear reactors; it would be able to reach Mars within 90 days.

Sky Ball

I own a Super Ball from back in the day, but that's got nothing on the Sky Ball.  The sky ball is a 4 in. rubber ball filled with Helium.  Apparently this makes for a super bounce up to 75 feet.  I want one so freaking bad right now.  They are only $20 on Amazon.

SS : Augmented Reality Contacts

 

 Move over Google Glasses, researchers have figured out how to put semi transparent leds into contact lenses.  To what end you say?  To receive and display data in images and video projected right on your eye balls.  Once they get a green led made for it they will have full color display.  Now this could lead to all kinds of fun stuff like viewing this here blog while carrying on a boring conversation or something like that.  But that kind of thing is probably a ways off at this point.  Still it's cool right.

So it seems physicists have succeeded in making a Gamma ray lens that was thought to be impossible.  Silly scientists you should know that whenever someone thinks something is impossible it just means they haven't figured it out yet.  

The bending in his group’s experiment isn’t much—about a millionth of a degree, which corresponds to a refractive index of about 1.000000001. However, it could be boosted using lenses made of materials with larger nuclei such as gold, which should contain more virtual electron-positron pairs. With some refinement, gamma-ray lenses could be made to focus beams of a specific energy.

Such focused beams could detect radioactive bomb-making material, or radioactive tracers used in medical imaging. That’s because the beams would only scatter off certain radioisotopes, and stream past others unimpeded. The beams could even make new isotopes altogether, by “evaporating” off protons or neutrons from existing samples. That process could turn harmful nuclear waste into a harmless, nonradioactive byproduct.

Severe Decline in Posts Today.

Well folks it's my birthday so I don't plan on making any posts today.  I gotta get out there and try to celebrate.  Or at least have a good time.  Catch a movie, buy something, who knows.  But I will be back tomorrow for Science Sunday and I've got a couple doosies coming at you.  So everyone enjoy the day as I hope I will.

 

Same-Sex Marriage in the Early Christian Church.

Large post everyone.  Same-Sex marriage is a hot topic at the moment, what with Amendment 1 in North Carolina and all.  But it appears the early Christian church had no problem with it.  There are actual documents with the ceremony laid out.

"Prof. John Boswell, the late Chairman of Yale University’s history department, discovered that in addition to heterosexual marriage ceremonies in ancient Christian church liturgical documents, there were also ceremonies called the “Office of Same-Sex Union” (10th and 11th century), and the “Order for Uniting Two Men” (11th and 12th century)."
 "These church rites had all the symbols of a heterosexual marriage: the whole community gathered in a church, a blessing of the couple before the altar was conducted with their right hands joined, holy vows were exchanged, a priest officiatied in the taking of the Eucharist and a wedding feast for the guests was celebrated afterwards. These elements all appear in contemporary illustrations of the holy union of the Byzantine Warrior-Emperor, Basil the First (867-886 CE) and his companion John."

2012 Mayan Apocalypse?  Nope.

Archaeologists have discovered new/old Mayan wall writings with calenders that go far beyond 2012.


"The room's wall calculations likely served as a blackboard for scribes, in a society where festivals, rituals and farming were tied to astronomical observations.
Examination of the rows shows they are columns of numbers and symbols similar to lunar eclipse calculations found in early 16th century Maya writings that tied astronomical events to rituals. Some of them include dates corresponding to a time after the year 3500." 

Well there ya go folks no need to worry about the end of the world this year.  But don't fret there is always the possibility of it happening in our lifetime with all the shit we do.  Or a meteor or something.  But who cares?  Live it up like the world is going to end.

Live Action Halo!

Halo movie you say?  Your wrong!  It's a live action Halo web series coming around the time Halo 4 comes out.  Sound interesting to me.

Matt McCloskey, director of franchise business management at 343 Industries, had this to say to Variety.

"Forward Unto Dawn" will play out over five weekly installments, around 15 minutes each, telling an original story about the game's Master Chief and how he inspired a young UNSC cadet who will eventually become a leader aboard the UNSC Infinity spacecraft. Introduction of the new character will tie in with the plot of "Halo 4," while providing a flashback to the beginning of the "Halo" franchise's war between the humans and the evil Covenant.

Tech Tuesday:  Texas to Build Bullet Train

Well it's about damn time in my opinion.  All the other popular countries have bullet trains, why not us.
The Texas Central Railroad is planning to have it done by 2020, connecting Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio.  It's a good deal man, cheaper than flying and damn near as fast.  I guess California and Nevada are wanting one between Anaheim and Las Vegas.  We need much much more.  I would travel more if we had bullet trains going every where.  Go to the link and read the whole story would ya.

Hit and the Runs.

So some dude in Florida was driving drunk and crashed.  Only to flee the scene of the crash, because he had to use the bathroom.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Police say a driver told them he left the scene of a crash to avoid another kind of accident. The Gainesville Sun ( http://bit.ly/IQzShs) reports 29-year-old Barnard W. Cato III told police he had "the runs" early Tuesday when his car hit another car and some nearby newspaper boxes. He was charged with DUI, hit and run and leaving the scene of an accident involving an 
injury.
